General

Here we offer an overview of the possible applications of foam glass ballast.

Logistics / Processing

  • The entire installation is simple and requires no special protective measures.
  • Even during installation, SGS can be easily used with conventional construction equipment.
  • To prevent the penetration of groundwater or other liquids into the bedrock from SGS, the use of a nonwoven / geotextile is recommended.

After loose packing and evenly distribution of SGS on the planum SGS is interlocked form-fitting in the grain skeleton by the compression process.

Applications for standard grain size (10-60 mm)

Earth excavation & soil preparation

Insert & distribute foam glass gravel

Compaction process & area inspection

Load-bearing substructure

Degree of compaction = 1,3:1 Here, the high compaction capability, combined with high compressive strength is the most important criterion. The insulation effect, represented by the lambda value (heat transfer value), plays only a minor role here.

Areas of application:

  • Initial building
  • Substructure on poorly supportable subsoil (eg moor areas)
  • Road construction
  • Sports fields, tennis courts, equestrian facilities
  • Track construction

Advantages:

  • Freezeproof
  • Dynamically loadable
  • Resistant to heavy load changes
  • Unlimited life
  • draining
  • slightly sprung ground desired in sports facilities

Load-absorbing thermal insulation

At a compaction level of 1.3: 1, this results in excellent load capacity and thermal insulation.

Applications:

  • Single / multi-family houses, low-energy houses, winter gardens
  • Hall primer, workshops, schools, gyms
  • Artificial ice rinks, swimming pools / pools
  • accessible underground garages, accessible and passable roofs
  • parking decks

Advantages:

  • easy to process without additional substances
  • Installation is weather independent
  • no adjustment work on inserts and corners
  • shortened construction time
  • drainable, capillary breaking
  • high pressure resistance
  • simple and cost-effective installation technology
  • Operations such as Baugrubenplanierung, installation of gravel / gravel and fine sand planning to Magerbetonplatte can be omitted
  • Saving of working time during construction

Lose or slightly compacted fill

Applications:

  • Flat roof insulation on concrete slab (inverted roof)
  • Tunnel coverings
  • Backfilling of buildings (perimeter insulation)
  • gardening and landscaping
  • Flat roof insulation with extensive greening
  • Flat roof insulation with intensive greening
  • Terrain modeling
  • landscape architecture
  • Surroundings of street u. Track construction (without additional support measures)
  • Park and garden design
  • Addition in soils and peat for loosening for better aeration, heat absorption and longer flowering time

Advantages:

  • rot-proof and dimensionally stable
  • heat insulating
  • excellent seepage layer (drainable)
  • Thermal insulation and simultaneously drainage layer; kapillarbrechend
  • Saving of design effort, as very lightweight building material
  • easy to install
  • Slope up to 50 ° possible
  • no adjustment work on inserts and corners

sound insulation

SGS in use for sound insulation is characterized by transmission and absorption. Transmission is the responsibility of the heavy material (e.g., stones). For the absorption of light SGS, a first-class soundproofing, which also meets aesthetic-optical requirements.

As an example of such a soundproofing wall, it is used as a modern architectural element by the Swiss Federal Railways and in the urban area (Bern). A noise absorption of more than 28 db is possible.

road construction and civil engineering

Applications:

  • road construction
  • bridge building
  • dam construction
  • embankments

Advantages:

  • Increasing the service life of the tar layer and reducing the maintenance costs for roads
  • High drainage effect due to void content of approx. 35%
  • Relief of building parts (statics advantages) due to low installation dimensions (about 170-200 kg / m³)
  • Stabilization of unstable soils by high load transfer and “gearing” of the foam glass ballast
  • Already at low installation heights capillary breaking
